The Longest Day was released in 1962 and had a huge cast of famous actors including John Wayne, Robert Mitchem, Henry Fonda, Richard Burton and Rod Steiger.
It tells the story of the D-Day landings in World War II. Although it doesn’t have the gory details of a movie like Saving Private Ryan, it was still made with great acting and precision. The movie shows what is happening on both sides of the Channel in the run up to the invasion. Continue Reading

Stalag 17 is thought of by many people as being the best POW movie ever made. It stars William Holden as the central character and directed by Billy Wilder, both of whom were nominated for Oscars for the movie and Holden won the Best Actor Oscar for his role. The movie was based on the successful stage play and the supporting cast were very strong too including Don Taylor, Otto Preminger, Robert Strauss and Harvey Lembeck.
Released in 1953, the movie focuses on a German POW camp named “Stalag 17”. It has American prisoners of war inside who make a plan to escape. They spend time getting every single detail right but when they put the plan into action, they get caught and several of them are killed. So they come to the conclusion that someone must have tipped off the Germans about the plan and blame J.J. Sefton, who is played by William Holden. Continue Reading

When you think of James Dean it’s almost impossible not to think of Rebel Without a Cause. The movie which was created in 1955 went a long way in establishing him as one of the best actors of his time. Sadly he didn’t get to see the release of it, which we will tell you about further in this article.
The movie itself featured James Dean who played Jim Stark and moved to a new neighbourhood. He and his family are moving constantly due to the amount of trouble he causes. But it is not all his fault as his parents are constantly arguing over what is best for him. This movie was created in 1954 and won the Academy Award for the Best Film. It follows the story of an ex boxer, played by Brando, and his struggle with life. He lures one of his associates into dying and then falls in love with the dead mans sister who is played by Eva Marie Saint. Many people consider that Errol Flynn was the best actor ever to play Robin Hood. So it’s no wonder that Warner Brothers made this movie to be their most expensive ever production up to that date in 1938. It was made in glorious Technicolor which was accompanied by an Oscar winning musical production from Erich Wolfgang Korngold.
