The Treasure of the Sierra MadreSurprisingly, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre was actually classed as a failure when it was released in 1948. But thankfully people eventually saw it for its sheer brilliance and that is why it is currently ranked in the top 50 all time great movies in the AFI list.

Some say it wasn’t popular because Humphrey Bogart wasn’t appealing enough but actually it has turned out to be one of his best performances ever. It has a great cast including Walter Huston, Tim Holt, Bruce Bennett and Barton Maclane and directed by John Huston. Continue Reading

The Searchers - Ultimate Collector's Edition 1956The Searches is thought of by many as the best western ever made. This is the ultimate collector’s edition so is a real must for all John Wayne fans out there.

The story itself features John Wayne as the main character named Ethan Edwards. He sets off to visit his brother and wife but in doing so watches in horror as they are killed by a group of Comanche Indians. He then sets off on a quest to find his niece, who is played by Natalie Wood and to get revenge on the Indians who killed his brother and sister-in-law. High Noon - Collector's Edition 1952Of all the westerns made between the start of the century to the middle of it, High Noon is one that stands out from the crowd. It was different because it didn’t follow the normal path of Technicolor as it was filmed in black and white. This special collectors edition features a fully remastered digital transfer making the clearest picture possible. It also comes with a unique original trailer for the movie.

The storyline is about a small town sheriff named Will Cain. Played by Gary Cooper, he is about to give up his sheriff duties and move out of town but discovers that a criminal has been released from prison and is due to arrive in town for a showdown. Stagecoach Two-Disc Special Edition 1939Stagecoach was released in 1939 and was the first movie to feature the partnership of John Wayne and John Ford. Ford was the director of the film and Wayne was the central character. It was the beginning of many westerns to follow to include both of them as they made a great partnership.

The movie follows the story of travellers who are thrust together on a stagecoach and come under constant attack from Indians along the way. Each member on the stagecoach have their own issues and problems which are brought out throughout the movie. Some of the now famous passengers were John Carradine, Thomas Mitchell, Donald Meek, Andy Devine and Claire Trevor. Continue Reading
