The plot of Psycho was kept really closely guarded by Alfred Hitchcock until the movie was released in 1960. He didn’t want anyone to know about the twists of the movie before they actually watched it. Nowadays of course, the plot and many scenes have been reused dozens of times showing just how good it was in the first place.
The script is about a woman, played by Janet Leigh, who steals thousands of dollars and goes on the run. In an escape to keep out of the way she checks into the Bates Motel that is run by a mother and her son. Well, at least it “appears” to be run by a mother and her son. Only the son turns out to have mental health issues and we can’t give much more than that away just in case you haven’t seen the movie! Only to say that she is part of the notorious shower scene that has been copied so many times since.
The movie owes its success to not only the excellent directing by Alfred Hitchcock but also to the starring role of Anthony Perkins who plays Norman Bates. He has a tremendous way of making you feel sorry for him but also scared of him at the same time. It also stars Martin Balsam, Vera Miles and John Gavin.
This special collector’s edition restores the movie back to its original format and it has been very professionally done by Universal. It also has extras including interviews, storyboards, photographs and newsreel footage.
The collection gives you the chance to own the movie in such a clear picture and sound qualities that you probably haven’t experienced it in before. Not to mention that it is a great movie in the first place.
