This 2 disc DVD collection features 4 classic murder mysteries; The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Dial M for Murder and The Postman Always Rings Twice.

The first movie, The Maltese Falcon, features Humphrey Bogart who stars as a detective with a really tough nature. His partner in his private eye firm is killed whilst following another man and Humphrey is hounded by police to find out why. The story comes down to a tale of deceit and involves the potential of having a gold encrusted statue of a Maltese falcon, hence the name of the film. It’s a great movie that helped to launch Bogart’s career.

The second movie in this collection is The Big Sleep and also features Humphrey Bogart who is partnered with Lauren Bacall. Bogart plays Philip Marlowe a private detective in L.A. who is hired by Bacall to identify problems being caused by her sister. The movie is very complicated and takes a couple of viewings to truly understand it but when you do, you realise how much of a good movie it was in it’s time.

The third movie is Dial M for Murder and is a classic Hitchcock movie from 1954. It stars Grace Kelly who is the wife of a tennis player that is cheating on him. He then tries to ensure that he won’t lose access to all her money in case they split or if something happens to her.

Finally is The Postman Always Rings Twice which is a classic from 1946. It stars John Garfield who is a loner and gets a job in a restaurant. He falls in love with the owner’s wife and they make several attempts on her husband. The first one fails and the second one works but they get caught doing it.
