Posted by Movie Reviews

The Ten CommandmentsThe Ten Commandments was released in 1956 and was a remake of an earlier 1923 version. Both were directed by Cecil B. Demille who was well known for his silent movie work. But his style never changed when sound was introduced and this can be clearly seen in this movie.

There are some great actors in the movie including Theodore Roberts, Charles de Rochefort, Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner and Estelle Taylor. This is a 3 disc movie collection which includes the epic movie and lots of great bonus features.

The movie tells the story of the life of Moses, played by Charlton Heston. He was a favourite in his household led by the Pharoah, played by Yul Brynner, until he turned his back on them and decided to lead his people to freedom. It was filmed in the Sinai and Egypt and built with one of the largest sets ever created for a movie. The sheer heat was incredible and the director Cecil B. Demille even suffered a mild stroke during filming and his daughter had to take over until he returned several days later.

The special effects in the movie are incredible, especially for the time it was made. The parting of the Red Sea is still spectacular even today. There is a musical score by Elmer Bernstein too.

The movie will appeal to a wide range of people. Anyone interested in religion will love it. People who like classic movies starring some real movie legends will love it. And people who like to watch a real movie epic will love it. It has something for everyone, so make sure to add it to your collection soon.
